Detox For Triathletes
Detoxing can be of great assistance to Ironman and Triathlon athletes. In addition to cleansing the system it can help with digestion, strengthening the immune system and weight loss.

To strengthen your immune system experts suggest you try a Detox.
Eat 10 portions of fresh fruit (not dried) a day like Berries. Vegetables are also good like artichokes, beetroot, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, peppers, spinach, and tomatoes but not potatoes.
Freshly frozen fruits are also good as they contain good levels of vitamin C. Garlic is another immune buster high in super nutrients.
Our bodies cleanses itself all day but are more effective while we sleep. Up to noon our body continues to remove stimulants, nutrition and pollution so having fruit in the morning aids this process.

Breakfast for Ironman and Triathlon athletes on a cleansing program
2 oranges 2 mandarins and half a red grapefruit will give you energy and help the detox system. Caution if you are unwell as your body is busy detoxifying itself so do not be tempted to have 10 oranges as this could over stimulate the process which will result in you feeling ,much worse.
REFRAIN FROM THE FOLLOWING

Oats are good for calming the nerves due to being high in vitamin B; they work by soothing over stimulated nerves. Onions and Peppers are also good and are also low GI Foods.
Whole gain Pasta and Whole meal Pitta bread is a good source of vitamin B is helpful.
Anti ageing foods include Apples, Apricots, Beetroot, Carrots, Lentils, Oatmeal, Pumpernickel bread, Strawberries, Whole meal bread, Whole meal Pitta bread.
Eat occasionally while doing the cleansing process. Fish-Mackerel, Salmon, Tuna, and Meat –Lean Organic meat like Skinless chicken.
Nuts – Nuts and seeds half a cupful a day, they lower cholesterol absorption during digestion and improve the immune function.

Do not eat any of the list below while de-toxing for Ironman and Triathlon races.
Dairy products, refined carbohydrates like white bread white pasta and white rice, meat and wheat.
Avoid salted foods or do not add salt to foods when cooking or add to food before eating.
White Sugar makes platelets stickier and interferes with insulin function damages teeth and also feeds bacteria and yeast. Sugar affects Vitamin C transportation so hinders the immune system. Old wives tale was eating lots of sweet things during Christmas will give you a cold after the Turkey has gone cold.
Do NOT drink Alcohol or Caffeine drinks during a detox, instead replace with Home made fruit smoothies, fresh Fruit for the fluid, Natural Mineral Water, Herbal Teas.
Eating or drinking too much of the same thing no matter how healthy can also be bad for you during a detox or normal daily diet, everything in moderation. Keep warm, being cold will not in itself give you a cold but being cold will weaken your immune system.
